We know that sustainability is becoming increasingly important. Running JLC LIVE gives us many opportunities to improve our impact – environmentally, socially, and economically – in the regions we operate.
It’s our job to make JLC LIVE more responsible, to play a role in helping the residential construction market improve its own sustainability… and we want to. We’re committed to building better, doing better, and fostering progress. We do this by connecting people with the networks and knowledge they need to help solve the big challenges in our industry.
The RICC has been taking an active role in incorporating green practices in the management of this facility. Green Committee meetings are held monthly to discuss and implement environmental initiatives. Our mission is to establish a Green program that is both financially responsible and environmentally conscientious. This will be accomplished through the placement of convenient public recycling bins for our attendees and staff along with a comprehensive education of our entire staff, partnered with targeted policies and periodic evaluations. Current practices include:
Work with us to get creative with booth designs to minimize carbon emissions with a smaller shipping footprint. Take advantage of eye-catching stretch fabric booth designs for lighter shipping or use Forest Sustainable Certified (FSC) wood to build quality booths and crates.
Renting rather than buying carpet, allows for flooring to be reused over and again. We recommend selecting darker-colored carpeting, which is easier to reuse and recycle. These Freeman Classic dark-colored carpets are made of 20-50% recycled content.
In addition to lighter shipping, choosing reusable shipping padding will help reduce environmental impact. Our shipping alternatives help eliminate the use of packing peanuts and foam plastic materials that do not naturally decompose.
It is standard operating procedure to reduce lighting and HVAC during move-in and out in exhibit halls and in unoccupied areas of the building. Escalators are also scheduled according to in-house groups.
Using Energy Star-rated equipment for AV gear and displays, illuminating booths with energy-efficient bulbs, and powering down equipment each day help avoid overconsumption.
By training installation and dismantling teams, we can better work toward eliminating and reducing unnecessary waste. Clearly labeling recyclable leftover materials for disposal, joining a caravan to other shows, and donating to local problems all help move our sustainability efforts forward. Our first aim is for our events to inspire sustainable development.
This is about the sustainability of the industry that our event serves. With focus on our content and partnerships, we inspire our attendees, exhibitors and event teams to deliver a sustainable event.
Our second aim is to run our events in an environmentally responsible manner.
The key is considering how we can reduce our carbon footprint through energy efficiency, consideration of our energy use, waste reduction and our procurement choices.
Our third aim is to run our events in a socially responsible manner.
This requires us to think about the impact we have on the local community and whether we are being a good neighbor. It also includes how we consider the welfare of everyone at our events, how we do business in an ethical and safe manner and how we promote equality and accessibility.
