Meet the Top 10 Contenders

► Aron Jones | New Brunswick, Can

YEARS INVOLVED: 23. I changed trades from Infantry to Construction Tech in 1999. I received my Red Seal Endorsement in 2002.

FIRST THING "MASTERED" ON A JOB SITE: Circular saw.

WHEN NOT BUILDING, YOU'LL FIND ME... reading and researching all things related to BS (Build Science Geek!) Sporting clays at my local club.

THE ONE TOOL I WON'T GO WITHOUT: If I can choose only one, a circular saw.

► Nielsen Crist | Bedminster, NJ

YEARS INVOLVED: 39. I was conscripted into the family business around the time I could walk.

FIRST THING "MASTERED" ON A JOB SITE: Vacuuming

WHEN NOT BUILDING, YOU'LL FIND ME... Surfing and playing music. Hiking with my wife.

THE ONE TOOL I WON'T GO WITHOUT: a 10 lb. sledge

► Aaron Butt | Salem, MA

YEARS INVOLVED: More than 20 years, my dad would say 35 years.

FIRST THING "MASTERED" ON A JOB SITE: Fixing my mistakes.

WHEN NOT BUILDING, YOU'LL FIND ME... Working on model trains with my son and I’ve played hurst for over 40 years.

THE ONE TOOL I WON'T GO WITHOUT: A square. The guide to nearly everything a carpenter does.

► Sam Durdaller | Naples, FL

YEARS INVOLVED: 14+. I’ve been working summers and school breaks since I was around 12 or 13 but have been in the industry full time since high school.

FIRST THING "MASTERED" ON A JOB SITE: Packing a dumpster. Highly underrated skill.

WHEN NOT BUILDING, YOU'LL FIND ME... Like most Floridians, I like to play golf and wrestle alligators.

THE ONE TOOL I WON'T GO WITHOUT: my winbag air shim. I honestly have no idea what I did before it!

► Mark Clement | Ambler, PA

YEARS INVOLVED: Don't let my boyish good looks fool you, there are rocks that are younger than me. I've been building, maintaining, fixing, editing, writing, media producing, brand ambassador-ing for 35-years.

FIRST THING "MASTERED" ON A JOB SITE: I hope the first thing I mastered (humbly) is humility. Trade skills only take you so far if your mind closes to learning and experiencing new skills...

WHEN NOT BUILDING, YOU'LL FIND ME... running through the woods and up the occasional mountain doing obstacle course races. My other hobby is watching my far-better-athlete of a son tear up his track and cross-country courses.

THE ONE TOOL I WON'T GO WITHOUT: Nail bags! I can hardly breath if I don't have my belt around my waist. I practically go into shock if I have to walk somewhere to find a pencil or tape measure.

► Chris Land | Greenback, TN

YEARS INVOLVED: 20

FIRST THING "MASTERED" ON A JOB SITE: I dont think I have ever "mastered" anything. I try to improve my skills everyday. They day you stop learning ins the day you should stop working.

WHEN NOT BUILDING, YOU'LL FIND ME... RV camping with the family. I also enjoy old classic cars.

THE ONE TOOL I WON'T GO WITHOUT: Communication. Without proper communication within the business, everything will fail.

► Jeremy Kassel | Glenmont, NY

YEARS INVOLVED: 18. 17 of that, self-employed.

FIRST THING "MASTERED" ON A JOB SITE: When I was a young apprentice, my job at 10 am coffee break time was to go to the gas station and get drinks and snacks for the crew. The very first thing I mastered was remembering their orders. To this day I still remember who wanted what!

WHEN NOT BUILDING, YOU'LL FIND ME... logging in my woodlot, hiking, camping, and spending time with my daughters.

THE ONE TOOL I WON'T GO WITHOUT: a pencil!

► Aaron Miiller | Pollard, AR

YEARS INVOLVED: 17 years full time, quite a few summers before that.

FIRST THING "MASTERED" ON A JOB SITE: Spraying Lacquer. While I was still in school, dad handed me an HVLP sprayer and said get to work. It took some time to get good. But after quite a few gallons of Lacquer, it became almost second nature.

WHEN NOT BUILDING, YOU'LL FIND ME... Riding ATV's in the Ozark Mountains here in Arkansas. It's a blast conquering those really difficult trails, but also cool to see those big waterfalls and overlooks that would otherwise take you days to get to hiking.

THE ONE TOOL I WON'T GO WITHOUT: Paslode Cordless Nailers.

► Andy Hopke | Mexico, MO

YEARS INVOLVED: 23.

FIRST THING "MASTERED" ON A JOB SITE: Thinking ahead as a laborer, which has benefits in any area.
